Louis Vuitton Speedy in Japan: Sizes, Versions and How to Check the Current Price

Date:

Share post:

The Louis Vuitton Speedy in Japan is one of the most commonly bought bags, new and pre-owned. This guide explains the line, shows how to confirm the current Japanese price yourself, and covers where to buy in Tokyo.

A note on prices: we publish price figures only when we have confirmed them on the brand’s Japanese site on the day of review. Louis Vuitton’s site did not allow us to load its product pages when we prepared this guide on 2 October 2026, so we list no yen figures here. The steps below show how to get the exact price in a minute.

The Speedy line in brief

Version What it is Who it suits
Speedy The classic hand-held bag with two rolled handles and a zip top, offered in several sizes named by width in centimetres Buyers who want the original shape and carry by hand
Speedy Bandouliere The same shape with a detachable shoulder strap Most daily users; the strap makes it far more practical
Nano and small sizes Miniature versions worn crossbody Evening or light carry

The line comes in Monogram canvas, Damier Ebene and Damier Azur canvas, and Monogram Empreinte leather, plus seasonal and collaboration editions. Each combination of size and material has its own product code and its own price. Always compare by code.

How to check today’s Japanese price

  1. Open Louis Vuitton’s Japanese website and search for the model name and size.
  2. Note the product code shown on the page. It begins with a letter followed by five digits.
  3. Read the price in yen. Japanese consumer prices are normally shown including 10 percent consumption tax.
  4. Divide by 1.1 to find the price before tax. The difference is the tax a qualifying visitor can recover.
  5. Search the same product code on your home country’s site and compare.

The full comparison, including card fees and duty at home, is set out in Is Luxury Cheaper in Japan? For a model where we did confirm official prices, see our Neverfull price guide.

Where to buy in Tokyo

  • Louis Vuitton Ginza Namiki, the flagship on Namiki-dori with its distinctive shimmering facade.
  • Louis Vuitton Tokyo Roppongi, on Keyakizaka-dori at Roppongi Hills, 6-12-3 Roppongi.
  • Department store boutiques in Ginza, Shinjuku and Nihonbashi.
  • Narita Airport Terminal 1, where the airport describes the Louis Vuitton store in the South Wing as its largest brand boutique, open 07:30 to 20:00 after security.

Stock differs by store. If you want a specific size and material, contact the store first. More detail is in Where to Buy Louis Vuitton in Tokyo.

Tax-free purchase

Bring your passport. Until 31 October 2026 the tax is deducted when you pay. From 1 November 2026 you pay the full price and the tax is refunded after customs confirms at departure that the bag is leaving Japan. See our tax-free guide.

Buying a pre-owned Speedy

Tokyo’s resale stores carry the Speedy in every size and age. It is a good candidate for pre-owned because the design has changed little. Check:

  • Canvas at the folds and base corners for cracks.
  • Handles and their leather tabs for darkening, dryness and splits.
  • Shape. An unlined canvas Speedy sags when it has been stored flat or overloaded.
  • Zip and padlock. Confirm the padlock and keys are included.
  • Strap. On a Bandouliere, the strap must be present and matching.

The full checklist is in Buying a Pre-Owned Louis Vuitton Bag in Tokyo.

New or pre-owned?

New from a boutique Pre-owned
Condition Unused, pale untreated trim Varies; patina already developed
Choice Current sizes and materials All eras, including discontinued versions
Price Current retail Depends on condition, age and demand
Protection House service The seller’s written guarantee

Frequently asked questions

Which size is most practical?

That depends on height and what you carry. Try the sizes side by side in a boutique; the difference is larger in person than in photographs.

Is the Bandouliere worth the extra?

For most people who use the bag daily, yes, because of the strap. Compare the two prices for your chosen size on the official site.

Does the Speedy hold its value?

It is consistently in demand on the resale market, but no bag is guaranteed to hold a given price. Buy it to use.
