KOMEHYO Shinjuku is not one shop. The Nagoya-based resale chain runs a cluster of stores a few steps apart on the east side of Shinjuku Station, each with a different category. Knowing which building holds what saves a good deal of time.
The Shinjuku stores at a glance

Getting there
- About one minute from exit 17 of the Shinjuku Subnade underground arcade.
- About three minutes from the Marunouchi Line’s Shinjuku Station.
- About four minutes from the East Exit of JR Shinjuku Station.
- About five minutes from Seibu-Shinjuku Station.
Shinjuku Station is large. Use the East Exit, not the West or South exits. Our Shinjuku luxury shopping guide covers the station and the department stores nearby.
How KOMEHYO presents items
Each item carries a tag with a condition rank and the price. The rank is KOMEHYO’s own scale; it is a summary, and it is not directly comparable with another chain’s letters. Ask staff to point out the specific wear behind the rank. Our guide to Japanese condition grades explains how to read these scales.
A method for shopping it
- Search online first. KOMEHYO lists its stock on its website with photographs and the branch holding each item. Note the item numbers you want to see.
- Confirm the branch. An item shown online may be in Ginza, Shibuya or Nagoya. Ask whether it can be transferred and how long that takes.
- Inspect under neutral light. Ask to take the item to a window or away from spotlights.
- Compare two or three of the same model. This is the main advantage of a large chain.
- Ask about returns and the authenticity guarantee before paying, and whether the terms differ for a tax-free sale.
Tax-free shopping
Bring your passport. The usual minimum is ¥5,000 before tax per store per day. From 1 November 2026, visitors pay the tax-inclusive price and claim the refund after customs confirmation at departure. See our tax-free guide.
Selling at KOMEHYO Shinjuku
The fourth floor of the main store is a buy-back counter. Japanese law requires dealers to verify the seller’s identity, so bring identification and ask in advance which documents are accepted from non-residents.
How it compares
KOMEHYO is one of several large chains in Tokyo. For a comparison of how they differ, read KOMEHYO vs Daikokuya vs BRAND OFF and Best Pre-Owned Luxury Stores in Tokyo.
Frequently asked questions

Prices at the large chains are generally fixed as tagged. Ask politely whether any current promotion applies.
Do I need Japanese?
The Shinjuku stores serve many overseas visitors. Having the item number or model name written down helps.
